چکیده

Objective: The high incidence of non-organ specific autoantibodies in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP) may suggest an association between MVP and autoimmune diseases. A higher incidence of MVP in patients with chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis and Graves’ disease has been demonstrated in various studies. In particular, an increased incidence of MVP in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease characterized with hyperthyroidism may suggest an association between MVP and thyroid functions. To the best of our knowledge, there is a lack of literature regarding the evaluation of autoimmune thyroid diseases in patients with MVP. This study primarily aimed to evaluate the autoimmune thyroid disease using thyroid ultrasonography and autoimmune thyroid antibodies in patients with MVP. Materials and Methods: Thyroid function tests, thyroid autoimmune antibodies, and thyroid ultrasonographic examination were evaluated in 30 patients with MVP (19 females and 11 males; mean age: 29.6±9.3 years) and 30 healthy volunteers (19 females and 11 males; mean age: 27.6±7.5 years). Results: Two groups were similar in terms of demographical and clinical characteristics. Evaluation of the thyroid functions, autoimmune thyroid antibodies, and thyroid ultrasonography revealed no statistically significant difference between the study groups. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest no association between MVP and autoimmune thyroid diseases. This requires further clarification with large-scaled studies.

Prevalence of psychiatry disorders in patients with mitral valve Prolapse syndrome

SUMMARY: The mitral valve prolapse syndrome (MVPS) is a common cardiac disorder, occurring in five percent of general population. An association has been claimed between MVPS and psychiatry disorders. In this study 648 patients (mean age 32.2 years, 411 female .237 male subjects) with echocardiographically confirmed MVPS were tested for psychiatry disorders, and compared with 660 control group...

Effect of position on echocardiographic diagnosis of mitral valve prolapse

Echocardiography has been accepted as the diagnostic modality of choice for mitral valve prolapse (MVP). The determine the effect of position on echocardiographic diagnosis of MVP, we examined 693 consecutive patients referred to the echocardiography laboratory because of suspected MVP. First, patients were examined using the usual standard M-Mode echocardiography( left parasternal third or fou...

Association between Body Mass Index and Mitral Valve Prolapse

Introduction: Body mass index (BMI) can affect cardiac morphology; however, the relationship between BMI and valvular heart diseases has not been thoroughly evaluated. This study aimed to determine the relationship between BMI and mitral valve prolapse (MVP) as one of the most common valve diseases worldwide. It can help us to better understand pathophysiology of this common disease. Materials ...

E VALUATION OF ADENYLATE CYCLASE ACTIVITY IN MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE

The term mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is used for a particular subset of patients with hyperadrenergic dysautonomia. It occurs when part of a leaflet or both leaflets of the mitral valve extend above the plane of the atrioventricular junction during ventricular systole. The adenylate cyclase activity in MVP dys-autonomia was studied by extraction of enzyme from the erythrocytes from 62 norma...

CORRECTED QT DISPERSION IN CHILDREN WITH ISOLATED UNCOMPLICATED MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a relatively frequent valvular abnormality. In both children and adults with MVP, an increased incidence of ventricular arrhythmias has been reported. QT dispersion, defined as the difference in duration between the longest QT interval and the shortest one, for a given set of electrocardiographic leads has been proposed as a sign of regional difference in card...
